Rick practices as an intellectual property lawyer, assisting clients with their patent, trademark, copyright and other IP legal needs.  After nearly twenty years as a partner in the IP Practice Group at Alston & Bird LLP, Rick founded McDermott IP Law in 2018.  He received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering and J.D. from Marquette University.  Rick currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Community Building Initiative, both the National Board of Directors and the Greater Carolinas Chapter Board of Trustees of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and the Marquette University “Time to Rise” Capital Campaign Executive Committee.  Rick and his husband Rob live in Dilworth but enjoy spending time in the NC mountains or wherever their RV takes them.
